HoPwaG: Thales

The idea here is to preserve my takeaways from each of the History of Philosophy without any Gaps podcasts, in an attempt to (a) brush up what I know about the history of philosophy and (b) have an easy reference.

So, Thales:
  • water as important in cosmology; and water as an important principle (not clear what the difference is between water as principle, and water as ontologically/cosmologically central);
  • note: views based on argument (perhaps via condensation).
  • magnets as having souls. Why? Because magnets initiate motion, and what initiates motion has a soul.
  • all things as full of gods (get this from combination of other two views).
